Boomer Field

Grand Opening Fun-Fly

This is the first Fun-Fly event hosted by the SPADS RC Club at our new home "BOOMER FIELD".  We are all very proud to have this wonderful flying site.  Our members have worked very hard to make this day possible.  Also we wanted to recognize one of our past club members.  Major Steve Freedman, an instructor pilot at Vance AFB, was deployed to Afghanistan as a combat pilot.  During his tour he followed the progress on the club web site of us creating our flying site .  He and his commander decided send the club a special gift, an American Flag that was flown in a combat zone.  Retired & active duty military club members understand the honor of receiving this flag.  The Vance AFB Honor Guard raised flag for the first time at 12 noon.  The flag will flown only for special occasions.  Thank Steve, fly safe.

We had a very good turnout from several clubs, 30+ pilots,  and many local folks from Enid attended.  We served up hamburgers , hotdogs, chips and cold drinks.  We had no planned or scheduled events, just come enjoy a day of flying.  We are all ready for spring time and the new flying season.  I would like to recognize Bill Cunningham our club President, he and many others  worked very hard to make all this happen.  Through out the day you would see him and Bob Kirk all over the field making sure we had plenty of food, pointing out parking areas, controlling the flight line and announcing on the PA.

Here are a few of the pictures taken of the activities.  I had planned to get some overhead pictures, but my trusty Cub failed me today.  I hope to be able to post a short movie of a one wheel landing of my 1/4 scale Fokker D VII soon.  It was a show stopper!

Here are a couple video links to the activities of the day  provided by Stan Pritchard and Darwin Loomis

Thanks Bill for "Another Fine Day at the Flying Field"!!
